Obituaries

    Highlands County Obituaries were indexed by the Genealogical Society starting in early 1982 to the present.
    The Obituaries were cut from the various newspapers, (Highlands Today, Lake Placid Journal and the News-Sun), and placed in Notebooks at our Library in Lake Placid.
    Ruth Whittimore, now deceased was the first to start the obits. Phyllis Patterson took over from her, then Rebecca Walls, Carole Pence, Virginia Neel and then Rebecca Walls again. Julie Knaus helped to index some of the books.
    Dorothy Slocum made up the obit cards when the HCGS was in Avon Park. She was a volunteer at the library and she did this for us.
    Sue Rood and Phyllis Patterson as well as Rebecca Walls have been typing them into a database for the website.
