
| Mannfield, more commonly referred to as Mansfield, is a ghost town near Lecanto and the original county seat of Citrus County. Mannfield was settled in 1884. It once had a hotel, church, school, three general stores, a saw mill and a newspaper. In 1893 the railroad came through bypasing Manfield in favor of Inverness. During the Great Depression, the government acquired Mannfield as part of the Withlacoochee State Forest and it lies on the outskirts of the forrest near CR 491. Traces of the town still remain today. |
