Inverness

Inverness is the county seat of Citrus County. It was established in 1889 and was originally named Tompkinsville. Once Inverness became the county seat it began to bustle, but sadly, A fire destroyed part of downtown in 1913. The Southern phosphate and Developement Co. was active in Inverness from 1890-1929.
