Hernando

| Hernando had a population in 2008 was 8,253. It is
about 31 sq miles. US Hwy 41 is the main road through Hernando,
which is just north of CR 486 (E. Norvelle Bryant Hwy).Two other roads
terminate in Hernando Hernando features a 46 mile bike riding trail
known as the Withlacoochee State Trail, which was converted from the
former Atlantic Coastline Railroad built in the early 1900's. Hernando
was a swinging mining town at the turn of the century. The women were
told to stay off the streets when the men hit town to unwind after a
hard days work at the mines. There were three doctors, one dentist and
two drug stores in 1902. Hernando was home to Judge E. C. May at one
time, who also built one of his stores there in 1894. |
