Because we are human, and thus have differences of opinion with each other, there are now two gen web organizations for Florida. The former is the Florida Gen Web Project, Inc., and the new one is the USGenWeb FLGenWeb Project. Each will try to help you with genealogical research in Florida. The US GenWeb can be reached via www.rootsweb.com and by clicking on the World GenWeb Project.
The purpose of this Martin County Gen Web Project is to provide
researchers with genealogical knowledge of Martin Co. Those of us
who have been "bitten by the genealogy bug" will do our best to answer
any questions, query, etc. that you may have.
Be sure to check out
the Special Projects by clicking on "FL Counties".
Martin County was incorporated on 5 August 1925 from parts of northern Palm Beach Co. and southern St. Lucie Co. The county is named after John Wellborn Martin, governor of Florida from 1925 to 1929.
Many thanks to genealogist Arlene Ackermann for being the webmaster and county coordinator for the first 10 + years of this website's existence. Arlene has spent many years of painstaking work creating informative websites for Martin Co., and then maintaining the Martin Co. US FL Gen Web and the Martin Co. Genealogical Society websites. She has provided links to many internet informational sources from which researchers can derive information and/or continue their research. These links are continued on this site, as is her work in other areas of this updated website. Acknowledging our sources is a way of giving the originator a sincere compliment.
The current County Coordinator (CC) is Walter "Walt" Bruetsch. See Contacts + for more info.
