Married: Miller – Goodwin – at the residence of the bride’s father, Mr. BB Miller. Of Lake View, to Miss Lee Goodwin, of Portland, Florida, on the 26th ult.

 

Died – Hart – On March 14th, Mr. Allen Hart, aged 87. Mr. Hart was one of the oldest landmarks of Walton County

 

Obituary – We regret to announce the death of Dr. DM Dake, who died at 11:30 Friday night, March 27th, 1891, of a complication of ailments. He had been ill, and confined to his home for thirteen weeks.

 

The doctor was born at Greenfield, Saritoga (sic) County, NY, on April 14th, 1814. He graduated in medicine from the University of Vermont in 1835; practiced his profession at Nunda, NY, for ten years, and then removed to Pittsburg, PA., where he resided until his retirement from active practice in 1863. Since the latter date he has resided with or near one and another of his married children in various parts of the country. He came to DeFuniak Springs, Fla., in 1886, where he resided till his death.

 

In 1835 he married Mary Bainbridge Manuel, who survives him. Of nine children, but four are living: Mrs. Dr. FW Skiles, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, now of Suffolk, Va.; Dr. CR Dake, of Belleville, Ill.; Mrs. Edward P Casterline, of Oakland, Cal.; Mrs. Frank Eaton, of this place. Of the doctor’s four brothers, who were physicians, but one survives him – Dr. JP Dake, of Nashville, Tenn.

 

The funeral took place at 2 o’clock on Sunday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. JH Parmlee, of DeFuniak Springs, and Rev. Marvin G Hodge, of Janesville, Wis.

 

Dr. Dake had many friends in DeFuniak Springs, and the bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
