Mr James Roy Butler, age 78, of Graceville, passed away Wednesday, Dec 23, 1998 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama following an extended illness. Mr Butler was born in Geneva County, Alabama on Oct 21, 1920. Mr Butler was a U S Navy Veteran (submarine service) and World War II, a retired mail carrier with the U S Postal Service following 28 years of service. He was selected as 1989 Man of the Year and was also a member and active Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Graceville. Funeral services were held on Dec 26 at First Baptist Church of Graceville with the Rev Mark Rathel, Dr Bud War and Dr Jerry Windsor officiating. Burial followed in Marvin Chapel Cemetery with James and Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing. He is survived by his wife, Rubby Butler of Graceville, children and their spouses: Richard and Cheryl Butler of Elk Grove, California, Raymond and Patsy Butler of Alexander City, Alabama; Rebecca and Harold Vandiver of Atlanta, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law Reginald and Doris Butler of Silver Springs; sister: Ruby Moss, of Slocomb, Alabama; grandchildren; Chris Butler, Robin Jones, David Butler, Justin Wilson, Les Wilson and Rose Mary Vandiver; and great-grandchildren Ryan Jones and Alyssa Jones.
