ABOUT THE USGenWeb PROJECT

In March and April of 1996, a group of volunteer genealogists organized the Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, the could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. Thus the USGenWeb Project was born.

There are still several Florida Counties that need sponsors. There is really nothing to it. You are not responsible for doing lookups, (unless you want to), and you don't even have to live in the county you sponsor. Take a look at the Florida County list and if you would like to host a county, check out the Adopt a County link on the Florida Home page then e-mail the state coordinator, Fran Smith
