Andy A. ALEXANDER, b.c 1815, Montpelier,VT, and Susan MORRIS/MORGAN? b.26 Oct 1819 Martha's Vineyard, MA, and children: Alvin b.11 May 1847, Montpelier, VT, with wife, 1) Betsy, b.c1853 IL; Ellen c1849 VT; John, b. 6 June 1853 VT; Matilda b.April 1860 IL. Located in 1870 Escambia County, FL Census, at Pensacola.

Alvin ALEXANDER later married 2) Millie TAYLOR b. 3 Mar 1857, AL/FL? and were living in Pensacola, in 1880 census. Millie was the daughter of Richard TAYLOR, b. c1781 NC/GA and Susannah HOSFORD/HOSPERS?, b. c1817 GA/FL? Alvin and Millie had three children in Pensacola: Susan Jean, b.22 Dec 1879; Henry Jackson (my gf) b.26 Oct 1881; and Thomas Morgan b.6 Nov.1883. They moved to Ouachita County, Arkansas, where they had about five more children.

Andy ALEXANDER was not living in 1880, as Susan, age 61, was living with Alvin and Millie, as "widow". We believe he died in Pensacola and is buried in St. John's Cemetery. I also believe Richard TAYLOR (who was 99 years old in 1880 Census) and living with his wife, Susannah, are also buried in St. John's Cemetery. I have found some of the Alexander and Taylor families located in "Florida Cemeteries of Escambia County" Vol. 1, a Special Publication of West Florida Genealogical Society, [LDS/FHC #6088508 Microfiche]. Most of them were buried in Morgan Family Cemetery - above Molino, but I have not located any records from St. John's Cemetery as yet.I would appreciate any information on these two families as possible. Thanks. Send E-mail to Helen C. Leigh 08/97

Peter and Gila GONZALEZ had Manuel F. GONZALEZ (1839-1907) who married Kate CHAPMAN (1843-1890) (supposedly related to Johnny (Appleseed) Chapman.). I moved to Pensacola 3 years ago from Atlanta to get away from big city life. I wasn't raised here, but we visited in the summers to a piece of land on Escambia Bay that was part of the original Spanish land grant. My mother and her four brothers and sisters own pieces of that five acre tract on the bay. On Gull Point and along Scenic Highway there are some other relatives, mostly the grandchildren of Manuel F. GONZALEZ.

Kate CHAPMAN,s parents were Barbara Anne DICKSON and ? CHAPMAN. I'd like to know more about him. He must have lived from about 1840 to about 1900. Family legend says he's related to John CHAPMAN (Johnny APPLESEED). Send E-mail to Joe DeReuil 09/97 ROV/LaVALLE Our family tree can be traced back to Josesph BONIFAY and Marianna PINGROV. Mariana came to Pensacola from Martinique with her five children, where she then married Charles La VALLE and had six more children. I'm interested in finding out more about Joseph BONIFAY and Marianna PINGROV prior to their arrival in Martinique. I don't know if Joseph came from France or was a native of Martinique. I do know that Marianna had to be in Martinique at least by 1779 which was the year of the birth of her first child Joseph, Jr. I also know that she was born in Nancy, France in 1764 and her father's name was Joseph and her mother's name was Josefa LeCONDTE. If anyone has any information on the family in France, it would be very helpful to me. Thank you! Send E-mail to Michelle Ferguson 12/7

I am looking for information on my grandmother's grandfather. His name was Duncan Bonaparte CURRIE. He was born in Scotland in 1819 and came to the USA as a young man. He drove a stagecoach between Pensacola and New Orleans. He was married in 1845 in Coffee County, AL to Elizabeth Ann Catherine LOPER and they lived near Pensacola until about 1847 when there was a yellow fever epidemic and he died. Apparently their house was burned with his body in it and his wife and young son went back to Alabama. Is there anyplace that might have a record of his death? If anyone knows anything about the history of the yellow fever epidemic in that area or about the stagecoach routes in those days, I would be interested to learn more about it. Also, if you have any ideas about where in Scotland immigrants to the Pensacola/New Orleans area would be likely to have come from, please contact me.

I am putting together all the information I can get on the DUNAWAYS in America from 1623-1654 from UK to the northern neck of Virginia, through Georgia and into Santa Rosa and Escambia County where I am trying to get info on Johnson Lee DUNAWAY in 1859 in Santa Rosa Co. and also on Sion and Sealy Ann who lived in Henry Co., Al and on down into Florida. Johnson came from Stewart Co. GA sometime from 1841 to 1859. He was in the Santa Rosa Co. Census in 1860 with wife and three or four children. One was my great granddad, James Newton DUNAWAY.

I am trying to locate when Johnson Lee Dunaway died and where he was buried. I believe it was in the Juniper Shores Cemetery south of Jay, FL. He was living in 1885 and was 82 years old. He also had a son, William Washington DUNAWAY who was the younger brother to my ancestor, James Newton. William died in 1926 and I am trying to find where he is buried. Two of his older sisters were buried in Juniper Shores Cemetery. Any info would be appreciated.

If I can find a birth record of Arthur D. LOPES in Pensacola, it will show the birth place and full names of his parents. This will be a tremendous help in my research. Thanks in advance for your help. Arthur John Lopez, Baton Rouge, LA, Tel:1-888-292-0310, toll free.

I am seeking for any survivors in Pensacola, Florida who are next of kin to Viola Adams-Marshall. She later remarried after the death of Raymond Marshall who I believed died in Chicago. Viola and Raymond Marshall gave birth to one son. His name was Bertram L. Marshal. He was accidentally drowned in 1948, May 8th at Baylen Wharf. He was my father. I never got to meet or know anything about him. I am seeking out any relatives, schools, etc that may have information or pictures specifically on him (Bertram L. Marshal). I am also researching his background to see if he ever married and/or if there were any children fathered by him other than me. I believed he attended Washington High school in Pensacola, Fl. The Bertram's family last known address was 215 1/2 South Devilliers Street, Pensacola. Thank you for any information. Send E-mail to

I am trying to get information on my great great grandfather. His name was Jasper RAND. He came from Italy around 1854. I don't know his real name, but my guess is that it was something like Gaspare RANDAZZO. I believe he came first to New Orleans and married my great grandmother, Ellen ROSE (from Ireland). They had at least two children there, Nina and Mary Anne (b1864) and in Pensacola, they had several more children, Annie, Ida and Mary Ellen.

Ellen died before 1883 and I believe he married Jane HAMILTON. He married a third time to Josephine FISHER and had a number of children. Their names were Dominic, Jasper and Julia. Birthdates are October 3, 1895, March 25, 1897, March 16, 1900. There is also also a Theresa Frances born on September 2, 1903. One of the children, Dominick had several businesses including a taxi service. He was still alive in 1955 and at that time was president of Pensacola Amusement Company.

I am trying to find out my great grandfather's real name, where he actually entered the U.S. more information about his children by Josephine. If there are any descendants by him and Josephine who are still alive, how may I be able to locate them. Jasper died in October of 1905 and I believe he is buried at St. Michael's Cemetery. Also do you know how I may find out if he was divorced from Jane Hamilton or did she die?

P.S. I thought you might like to know that through my genealogical research, my mother has recently made contact with a cousin whom she lost touch with when my mother was 11. My mother is going to be 80 on September 5th. My mother's cousin's name was Mary Jane VILLAR of Pensacola. Send E-mail to Frances 08/97

The family lived in Pensacola until about 1781, at which time the British evacuated the city when it was under seige to the Spanish. Does Pensacola have records of English habitation prior to 1781?
