Obituary of Jesse Whidden
Another Land Mark Gone
04 April 1918
Jesse Whidden, one of the oldest citizens
of DeSoto county, died Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p. m. in Arcadia. He
was born in October, 1838, and had reached the age of 82 years. He had
resided in DeSoto county, Fla., continually since the close of the Civil
War.
He was a Confederate veteran, as well as
having served as a soldier of the United States in the Seminole Indian
War of 1856.
He was a man who had the respect and esteem
of the whole county, and his demise is greatly regretted by his many friends.
He leaves surviving him, five children, all
but one living in DeSoto county.
The funeral will be held at Joshua Creek
church today at 9:30 a. m., and interment will be made at Joshua Creek
cemetery. All are invited.
