The Arcadian   24 Aug 1944
Under date of Aug. 12th, Pfc. George D. Johnson, USMC, writes to have his address on The Arcadian mailing list changed. His former address was Camp Pendleton, Ocean Side, Calif., but the new address is in care of Fleet Post Office at San Francisco, so we have an idea that he has started on his journey overseas, or soon will.  "Please send my copies of the Arcadian" he writes, "to the new address, and I'll appreciate it alot, for I don't want to lose contact with home and friends and through my home town paper I will not. Any friends who would like to write, I'd only be too glad to answer for there's no friends like the old ones," he continued.
Pfc. Johnson, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Johnson of Nocatee, works in the pay office of the Fifth Marine Division. His picture, together with three brothers also in the service, appeared in a recent issue of The Arcadian. Any friends wishing to write this Arcadia boy may address him: Pfc. George D. Johnson USMC (405983), 5th Mar. Div. Pay Office, c/o Fleet PO San Francisco, Calif.

The Arcadian   08 Feb 1945
From George D. Johnson of the Marines writes under date of January 31, from somewhere in the Pacific: "This is the first time I've written in quite sometime, and I do hope you and yours had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and many more to come. I am sure all of us fellows were home in thoughts and dreams and I know all of you were thinking of us also. We thank you and are hoping that next year we may all celebrate the holidays together.
"I want you to know that I have been receiving The Arcadian OK, of course it has been a few weeks late, but any news from home is good news, so I do want to keep on receiving your paper, so please notify me on the expiration of my subscription. I read your editorials with greatest of interest and some of them are very good, in fact most of them. Now for the main purpose of this letter. I've had a change of address and ask that you please change it on your mailing list."
For any friends wishing to write to the home-town Marine in the Pacific, we will be glad to furnish you his address upon request, as the office of censorship prevents us from publishing the addresses of overseas men in this column. Glad to hear from you Johnson and hope you will write us again sometime.

The Arcadian   05 Apr 1945
"Hi You All", writes Pfc. George D. Johnson of the Marines under date of March 22, from somewhere in the Pacific. "This means all my relatives and friends back in dear Ole Desoto," he continues. "Having moved quite recently and my mail not having reached me as yet, thought this would be a good way of letting everyone know my new address. Just finished reading my latest edition of The Arcadian, which was the January 18 issue, so there's probably been quite abit happened since that time. So glad to see that the 'home-team' is doing so well in basketball, and keep up the good work. I'm rooting for you anyway and I know all of you are doing the same for us over here. Since writing last I have been transferred again. I am now with the Marine Aircraft Wing, but still in the Paymaster Department. Wishing everyone the best of luck and am really looking forward to the day when I can return to good old Arcadia and DeSoto County."

These articles were contributed by Kenneth Johnson, a nephew of George D. Johnson. Kenneth adds that George is a native of Nocatee and that he is the son of
Augustus Dansby & Lula Prescott Johnson. George is still living in Arcadia, FL.
George spent 27 years in the military serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam
(It is my opinion that George is a true American hero!)
