Naples, Aug. 31--Norwood (Donnie) Strickland Jr., 38-year-
old member of the
local police force, died suddenly this
afternoon of natural causes in North
Naples. He had been a
policeman for three years after coming here from Bonita
Springs.
The native of Bainbridge, Ga., attended Fort Myers High
School
and was a star halfback on football teams there in
the late 1930's. He had
played some softball in Naples and
was considered an excellent
player.
Strickland was a veteran of World War II. He was a
member of
the local lodge of the Loyal Order of Moose and
the Florida Peace Officers
Assn.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby, daughter, Mary Katherine
and son,
Donnie, all of Naples; mother, Mrs. Barbara
Strickland of Bonita Springs; two
brothers, Vance of Bonita
Springs and Roscoe of Ft. Myers; three sisters,
Mrs. N. K.
Andrews of Tallahassee, Mrs. Henry J. Kinard of Greenwood,
S.
C., and Mrs. Frank Liles of Bonita Springs.
Funeral arrangements will be
announced later by the
Richard A. Pittman Funeral Home of Naples.

Funeral services for Donnie Strickland Jr., Naples,
policeman who died Friday
of a heart attack, will be held at
10 a.m. Monday at Pittman Funeral Home
Chapel, with Rev. B.
C. Collins, pastor of Bonita Springs Baptist Church,
officiating.
Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens
Cemetery in
Naples with Pittmans in Charge.
Active pallbearers will be Herbert Henning,
George
Galloway, W. L. McSwain, Nick Kelly, Bob Alexander and
Pershing
Hogue. The Naples police force will be honorary
pallbearers.
