Aubrey Rogers was born in Fort Myers on August 27, 1926 to
William Oscar Rogers and Minnie May Wilson Rogers.
Early in his high school life Rogers began to think about a career in law enforcement.
As a child Rogers had a great uncle who was a U.S.Marshal and a best friend who's father was a policeman, both men greatly influenced his future in law enforcement.
At the age of 22, Rogers went to work for the Fort Myers Police Department, and at that time the department only had a handful of officers, he only earned .74 cents an hour.
In 1957, Mr. Rogers moved to Naples, where the then Collier Co. Sheriff E.A.Doug Hendry hired Rogers, whom he had previously worked with at the Fort Myers Police Department, hired him to work in the Everglades jail. He eventually became Sheriff Hendry's chief deputy.
On November 19, 1975, the then Florida Govenor Reuben Askew appointed Aubrey Rogers as sheriff of Collier County, replacing Hendry who had resigned.
Rogers held office for 13 years, He was succeeded by his former chief deputy, Don Hunter, who was elected sheriff in 1988.
During his time as sheriff, Rogers successfully carried Collier Co. sheriff office in an era of tremendous growth. For Sheriff Rogers, the only way to cope with a growing Collier Co. was to have an agency that was growing along with it.
Sheriff Rogers used a blend of crime fighting and community service during his years.
