James Jacob
Stephen "Jake" Jones was born in Pickens County, Ga, on July 2,1869,
the son of Charles Allison Jones and Hester Ann Prather.
He grew up In Pickens County, working in the mines as he got older.
He married his wife Mary Stepp about 1899.
They are listed in the 1910 Pickens County census, Jake working as a laborer.

Sometime between 1911 and 1920, Jake and his family moved to Alabama,
where they are listed in the 1920 census
for Cherokee County, Al. By this time, Jake and Mary had four children,
Stephen, Ethel, Cale and Jesse.
Jake worked at Fort McClelland, an army base near Jacksonville, Alabama,
building housing for the soldiers to live in. In 1923 Jake moved his family to Naples.
He had taken a job working to help build the Tamiami Trail running from Naples to Miami.
He must have liked the tropical climate because this was where the family stayed.
By the 1930 census, Jake was listed as living in Naples and working
as a messenger for the Telegraph Company.
