Collier County, FL
Known for its 10,000 islands, Collier County and its Everglades
region offer one of the last large strands of cypress in the United
States. The Everglades dominate much of Collier, so development
has been almost exclusively along the county's western border,
along the Gulf of Mexico. In the 1800's the Seminole Indians settled
in the Everglades. Today a majority of the estimated 2000 Seminoles
in Florida live in Collier County. Major private employers include
health care services and lodging. Major roads into the county
are I-75 and US 41. Nearest major air service is at Southwest
Florida Regional Airport located in Lee County.
