Lakeland Ice Company, was in Lakeland
yesterday coming down from Jacksonville to investigate conditions hrer
relating
to that enterprise. Mr. Fred W. Kettle, of St.Augustine, who is also
connected with the
Lakeland Ice Co. reached here yesterday as well. A
conferance between the City Council and the officials of the Ice.Co.was
held at a special meeting of the Council yesterday for that
purpose, and after having inspected the plant and water supply and
discussed the
situation the ice people arrived at the determination of
abandoning
their present method of obtaining water by pumping it from Lake Wire,
and will at once
install machinery for pumping water from the deep well which has been
sunk on
the companies premises.
The company officials declaired they believed ice made under the
present conditions absolutely healtful and they considered
illness of any kind as a result of its use impossiable. But in
order
to satisfy the public and decided to adopt the new system, though it
entailed considerable additional expense. |
