Born: October 24, 1888 and Died: October 12, 1923. The Rev.Martin H.Wickman was the pastor of the Grace Lutheran Church, He came to Lakeland in 1921. Martin H.Wickman was born in Freistadt,Wis. where he spent his youth he entered the Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Ill. in 1908, in 1912 he was ordained and his first charge being in Greenwood, Wis. where he remained for 2 years, he then excepted the pastorate at Cedarburg,Wis. where he organized a small congreation into one church and built up a large parish. Two years later the Rev. Wickman was called to Cannon Falls,Minn. where his wonderful personality and ability to organize increased the size of the church membership. Five years later, Rev.Wickman accepted the pastorate of the Grace Lutheran Church in Lakeland. The Rev.Martin Wickman was united in marriage to Miss Irene Weed of Milwaukee,Wis. in 1912 and to this union was born one daughter and 2 son's . The sad news of the death of the Rev.Wickman came with extreme sadness and sorrow. Rev.Wickman had been sick for about 2 or 3 weeks and it was not known just how bad his illness had been so it came as a shock to the membership upon hearing of his death. His illness started with a cold then followed by ptomaine poisoning from something he had eaten. Rev.Wickman died at his residence on 205 East Orange Street, Lakeland where he had lived for about 3 years, following the resignation of the Rev.W.H.Pugh. Rev.Wickman is survived by his wife and his three children, twin boys age 5 years, Ronald and Donald and one doughter, Delores, age 10 years. He also leaves three sisters and six brothers who are scattered over the country with the exception of one brother who has resided here for about 5 years and is a cashier for the Coast Line freight depot. The death of Rev.Wickman is a loss of a man who was always ready and willing to do everythin he could to help the community and the people he served. Those associated with him knew of his love of music and his deep spititual life and the beautiful thing of life. His membership in the Lakeland Ministerial Association and his association with the faculity of Southern College, all will miss him. *************************** Funeral Services for the: Rev.Martin H.Wickman; The body lay in state at the Success Funeral Home on West Lemon Street. Funeral services for the Rev.Wickman who died Friday evening will be conducted at Grace Lutheran Church, Thursday afternoon at 2:30. The service will be in charge of the Rev. W.E.Pugh, former pastor of Grace Lutheran Church and now located at St.Petersburg and interment will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery.
