Police Chief Of Bartow, Lake Wales, Dies. Ledger, Thursday, Nov. 5, 1936, front page Lake Wales, Nov.5- W. F. Woodruff, 63, formerly Chief of Police at Bartow and Lake Wales, died last night at the Orange General Hospital in Orlando, following an emergency operation. Mr. Woodruff was born in Alexandria City, Ala. He had been a resident of Polk County for 25 years, living in Bartow where he served as deputy under Sheriff John Logan. He was Chief of Police for eight years in Bartow, and for three years at Lake Wales. He is survived by his wife , and two sisters who live in Ala. He was a member of the Masonic Order , Knights of Pythias and IOOF. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 from Draper Funeral Home, Lake Wales. |
