I am your new host for the Polk County, FLGenWeb Project,Inc. site.  I welcome any comments you may have about my site as well as its contents,  I am always looking for more material to add and Welcome any material you may think  would add to the History of Polk County, There are several little towns and places that never quite made the town list I would also like to post them here amoung my pages.

Polk Co.Commioners-1911-1912 Polk County Florida,
became the 39th.
county in Florida on
February 8,1861,
when the State of
Florida divided Hillsborough Co. into eastern and western halves. The eastern half was named Polk,in honor of the 11th.President of the United States,James Knox Polk . Polk was sworn in as president on the day after Florida's March 3rd.,1845 Statehood.

       Periods in Office: Jan.7,1913-Jan.2,1917
       Florida's 21st.Governor,graduated from
   Cumberland University in Lebanon,Tenn. practiced
   law in Lakeland, Fl. In 1900 he was Mayor of
   Lakeland and reelected in 1901.Buried in Roselawn                  Cemetery,Lakeland,Fl.-more
