  Stephen Soar served through out the Civil War in Pennsylvania Regiment taking part in a number of engagements. He came to Florida in 1882, locating West of Dade City, Fl. where he lived until his death, with the exception of some months spent with 2 sons of Little River.
  Mr.Soar was a nurseryman and horticulturist and a lot of credit is due to Mr.Soar for the development of fruit growing of various kinds of this part of the state, pomology being a hobby with him. Mr.Soar was one of the first persons to successfully raise strawberries in the state of Florida. Mr. Soar was a quiet, friendly man, respected and loved by all who knew him.
  Mr. Soar was a lifelong and consistant member of the Baptist church, a member of the Dade City Lodge of Masons, and active in Grand Army work. One of his last visits to Dade City was to take part  in the Armistice Day Services.
  Mr. Stephen Soar was one of the oldest Grand Army Vetrans in Florida, and a resident of Pasco County for the past 45 years, died at his home west of Dade City early Thursday morning following a paralytic stroke Sunday.
  Funeral services wil be held from his home at 10:00 this morning ( Friday) .Rev.W.K.E. James, Pastor of the College Street Baptist Churce, officiating.
  Interment will be in Dade City Cemetery, Dade City Lodge F and A.M.,being in charge, with the Grand Army ritualistic services being read by Captain H.B.Jefferies of Zephyrhills, members of the Womens Relief Corps of Dade City and Zephyrhills attended in a body.

  Mr.Soar's remains were escorted to the local cemetery, where they were laid to rest, the commitment service being in charge of Dade City Lodge of Masons.
  Surviving this grand old man and soldier are a widow, Mrs.Martha Soar, and 5 sons; John J., F.M. and D.H. Soar of Miami, W.T Soar of Plant City and Ira E. Soar of Dade City.
